Synopsis

Harvey, written by Mary Chase and premiered in 1944, is a charming comedy inspired by a short story by author Mary Chase herself. The play became an immediate success, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1945. Its story centres on Elwood P. Dowd, a affable man whose best friend is an invisible, gentle giant rabbit named Harvey. The play’s exploration of imagination, kindness, and acceptance struck a chord during World War II and has remained a beloved classic of American theatre. Its playful tone and heartfelt message continue to resonate, illustrating how a little kindness and imagination can transform lives.
